Artist Statement ANTHONY OLIVER

The paintings are a visual result from a memory, an echo in my mind. I have to paint them. the paintings are built slowly; I build up texture, enhance colour, or partially obscure the image. I will do anything that replicates the feeling I have.

I work principally in oil paint and make figurative paintings of people and places. I source my own photographic archive as reference, found images from anywhere and traditional drawings done from life. I strive to make professionally crafted artwork that will survive through time. The paintings are a visual result from a memory, an echo in my mind. I have to paint them. The paintings built slowly; I build up texture, enhance colour or partially obscure the image. I will do anything that replicates the feeling I have. I have no specific finished idea of how to complete the paintings. I let accidents and chance occur. The titles for these paintings only ever come to me after or during the process of painting. I know that if I let it, the process of painting will reveal something to me.
