Ron Fortier – Gor #1
Fortier investigates the endless possibilities of the grid—a form which acts as the structural backdrop of our constructed world. Nineteenth-century art critic Gottfried Semper praised the grid-like qualities of textiles and tapestries, and considered them the foundation of all architecture. In keeping with Semper’s thesis, Fortier’s grids can appear to be textiles, tapestries, or brick walls, showing the continuity of form across many linear systems of organization. Fortier creates the lines between each quadrant either by adding or removing paint, playing with negative space to create the illusion of depth.
